1948 Haganah launches Operation Qilshon (Pitchfork), occupying strategic areas in Jerusalem evacuated by British and taking Palestinian residential quarters outside Old City from Arab irregulars.
1948 Haganah launches Operation Schfifon to take Old City of Jerusalem.
1948 State of Israel proclaimed in Tel Aviv at 4:00 P.M. President Truman recognizes state of Israel.

2006  Israeli settlers set fire to the Mansheyya Mosque in Acre in 1948 occupied Palestine. 
2004  IOF troops demolish 150 Palestinian homes in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip during a campaign lasting three days. 
2000  Palestinians mark 52nd anniversary of the Nakba by observing a general strike, clashes with IOF troops leave six Palestinians killed and 1000 wounded. 
2000  Tens of thousands of Jewish settlers rally in West Jerusalem to protest any potential Israeli territorial concessions. 
1998  The EU announces the exclusion of Israeli products manufactured in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, the Golan Heights, and the Gaza Strip from the free- trade agreement with Israel. 
1998  (15-17 May) Throughout the Palestinian territories, clashes with Israeli soldiers continue in the aftermath of An-Nakba day, which left ten Palestinians dead and hundreds injured. 
1948 British Mandate ends.
1948 The Arab States dispatch around 25,000 of their armed forces to Palestine.
1948  The Haganah, made up of 60,000 to 70,000 trained members become the backbone of the Israeli occupation army. 
1947 UN Special Session ends with the appointment of an 11-member Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP), the 11th commission of inquiry appointed since 1919.
